2017 NSW AUSTRALIA UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS - What You Need to Know
Don't ignore this page just because you may feel your chances of getting a scholarship are slim. Let me tell you, honestly, you just never know! You have to be in it to win it and it doesn't hurt to give a few scholarships a try at all. If you are thinking of attending UNSW, USYD, MQ, UTS or UOW have a look below at some examples of the main scholarships that are available for you. There are so many scholarships out there that there's a likely chance you'll find a few that you will be eligible for (head over to each university's scholarship information pages when you can).

University of New South Wales
Co-op Program
This scholarship not only offers financial support for students, but also provides them with industrial training that can help students develop skills related to networking, leadership and professional development. If you plan on studying something in business, information systems, engineering or construction management and property, the Co-op Program may be for you.
Value: $16,750 per year, for the duration of your degree.
Criteria/Assessment:
- ATAR of 96+
- Australian students
- Personal qualities
- Extracurricular activities
Closing Date: 30/09/2016

- December 8: Conditional Offers
Scientia Scholarship
The Scientia Scholars program offers high achieving students financial support, academic mentors that provide advice and support, invitations to special events, the chance to become a student ambassador, and the encouragement to apply for research assistant positions.
Value: $10,000 per year, for the duration of your degree.
Criteria/Assessment:
- ATAR of 99.90+
- UNSW listed as a preference
Key dates and/or Process: None! It's automatic - just get the ATAR!
University of Sydney
Although not a scholarship, you may also be interested in USYD's Future Leaders Dux Scheme, where dux students and student captains of NSW schools are guaranteed a place based on academic achievement and their principal's nomination.
Sydney Scholars Awards
The Sydney Scholars Awards offers Year 12 students commencing their studies in 2017 financial support.
Value: $6,000 to $10,000 in value and awarded in duration from one year, up to 5 years (combined degrees).
Criteria/Assessment:
- ATAR of 95+ or 90+ for Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Sydney College of Arts
- ATAR of 99.90+ automatically results in scholarship worth $10,000 per year for duration of degree
- International students can also apply
- Demonstration of abilities in leadership, creativity, self-motivation and communication
- Hardship grounds
Key dates and/or Process:
- Online application including personal statement and school report
- 29/08/2016: Applications Open
- 30/09/2016: Applications Close
- Late-November: Conditional Offers Issued
- Mid-December: Firm Scholarship Offers Issued - except for Sydney Scholars Awards on Hardship Grounds

Sydney Scholar Chancellor’s Award
The University of Sydney Scholar Chancellor's Award is given to students who excelled in their Year 12 results. Along with the financial support, students also gain priority for accommodation near campus and leadership programs. The scholarship can be deferred for up to two years.
Value: $10,000 per year for the duration of your degree.
Criteria/Assessment:
- ATAR of 99.95
- USYD listed as a preference
- Open to Australian and New Zealand students
Key dates and/or process: None! It's automatic - just get the ATAR!
Macquarie University
Merit Scholarship
Students who are expecting to get an ATAR of 98.5 or above should consider this scholarship.
Value: $12,000 per year for the duration of your degree.
Criteria/Assessment:
- Demonstrate outstanding character, maturity and common sense
- Capacity to triumph hardship, such as financial disadvantage, sole parent or carer responsibilities, non- English speaking or Indigenous background, effects of trauma and/or abuse, long-term medical condition or disability or coming from a rural or remote area

University of Technology, Sydney
Vice-Chancellor's Outstanding Achievement Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to the top five students with the highest ATAR that have applied for UTS.
Value: $12,500 per year for the duration of your degree.
Criteria/Assessment:
- Australian or New Zealand citizen
- Current school leaver or gap year student
- ATAR of 95+
- High UAC preference to a UTS undergraduate course
- Ranked in ATAR order
- Motivation to succeed in the chosen degree program
- Initiative in personal and professional life
- Applying through UTS online Elite School Leavers Scholarships Application form will be highly regarded.

University of Wollongong
Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship was created for high achieving candidates living within UOW's main drawing area (the Illawarra, Southern Sydney, South Western Sydney, Southern Highlands and the South Coast of NSW).
Value: $3,000 for one year
Assessment/Criteria:
- Top performing students in the 2016 HSC are selected
- Live within UOW's main drawing areas (listed above).
- Have a UOW preference within the top 4 UAC preferences by 17 December 2016
- Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident or hold an Australian Humanitarian Visa
